Frechen, February 15, 2016 – With lensTESTER, Image Engineering announces an attractively priced test chart for private use. lensTESTER will be first presented on the Electronic Imaging Symposium together with the new website www.camtest.eu, which contains an online based analysis function for calculating and displaying the results.
With the new lensTESTER photographers can not only test their camera system at home. Furthermore they will be able to get to know their system better.
Previously published test reviews about single cameras or lenses mostly refer to a certain camera-lens-combination. Thanks to lensTESTER, photographers can now test and evaluate their own personal camera systems. Testing images with different camera settings can be completed and interpreted by mounting the poster at home or in a photo studio. With the help of the achieved measurement results, the personal camera system can be used more precisely in the photographic workflow.
Achieve the best image quality with your own camera system
Referring to the evaluation of an own camera system, lensTESTER offers many advantages. Basis is the assessment of image quality, where the focus is on the resolution and the contrast behavior. Besides image quality assessment, the calculated results offer a whole range of other benefits. Thus, it is possible to check camera-lens-combinations for settings such as aperture, sensitivity and/or often used parameters. A statement about visual sharpness or the accuracy of the autofocus can also be made. Using lensTESTER, the strengths of camera-lens-combinations can be determined. Now camera settings can be adjusted to shooting situations more effectively, for example, in case of portrait or landscape photography, where the aperture plays an important part. Test series with different apertures can be captured and evaluated. The information provided by the test results helps to select the optimum aperture in between lens performance and diffraction limits.
Using high megapixel cameras
With increasing megapixel count by high quality sensors, requirements for lens quality grow. More often the question arises if lenses can capture that much detail. Using lensTESTER, it is now possible to proof this for individual camera-lens-systems. The Siemens stars of lensTESTER, which serve for evaluating the resolution, are construed for using cameras from six to 70 megapixel. Thus, also current DSLRs with high megapixel sensors can be used for taking test images. The results show if the lens meets the desired requirements.
Five Siemens stars
lensTESTER consists of a poster and six single subcharts. There are five Siemens stars for evaluating the resolution, which cover the center and four corner areas. For the analysis of possible sharpening effects within the image, the slanted edges subchart is used. Furthermore the poster contains visual elements, which allow photographers a subjective view at fine details, structures and skin tones.
The test chart can be attached to a suitable wall or surface. Thanks to existing guide lines and orientation arrows, the assembly of lensTESTER is a simple task. Velcro fasteners for the alignment of the separated subcharts are included in the package. With these Velcro strips the single elements can be removed and put back in place again.
Poster and subcharts are furnished with a special sealing. This minimizes the risk of scratches and cracks. Furthermore, disturbing light reflections are reduced by this special coating – thereby the illumination of the test chart is simpler.
The removable subcharts as well as the foldable poster are coming and stored in a DIN A4 sized folder.
Professional and automatic analysis
The new website camtest.eu contains a test area for analyzing the test images. It is centered around the analysis, which automatically evaluates the test images and presents the results in a way that is easy to understand. The test results are complemented by graphical representations to underline the ease of use.
Clear allocation of test data
In the test area on the camtest.eu site different device combinations and related measurement sets can be created and adapted by the user. By this clear division, actual and older existing data can be found and called up very quick.
With the purchase of lensTESTER, photographers receive the opportunity to use the online-based test area for free. Solely a registration on the website www.camtest.eu is required to analyze and view own test photos and related results. The advantage an account offers is that data of actual and chronically older analysis can be reviewed at any time.
Premium & Business
Beside free of charge usage, we will offer two fee-based annual memberships in the future that hold special benefits. In case of a premium membership, the own results can be compared to each other or with results of other systems directly. Furthermore, the result display is expanded by an MTF-visualization.
Furthermore it is planned to build up the website as a source of information on technical backgrounds.
Availability and price
lensTESTER will be commercially available prospectively from March 11th 2016, for a recommended retail price of 99.00 € net.
