Test chart TE296 measures the resolution of a digital camera based on SFR edge measurements. This chart uses gray patches for linearization and is designed per the latest update of ISO 12233 (2023). TE296 has straight diagonal edges and is available with a 4:1 (standard version) or 6:1 contrast ratio.

In the past, charts designed for ISO 12233 only had the standard 4:1 contrast ratio. However, the TC 42 (technical committee responsible for the ISO update) determined that a larger 6:1 reflectance ratio can reduce the influence of noise on the e-SFR measurement but is then more likely to be influenced by non-linear signal processing in the camera.

The 4:1 ratio is still the standard version of TE296 and can be directly compared to the results of earlier editions of this chart.

TE296 is supported by the iQ-Analyzer-X image evaluation software.
